South Carolina’s strength and conditioning program will be under new direction under coach Will Muschamp.
Athletics director Ray Tanner informed head strength & conditioning coach Joe Connolly this week he will be replaced, a source told The State, although the Gamecocks haven’t announced a change or a replacement.
Connolly came to South Carolina in 2009 from a position at Louisville and served as director of football strength and conditioning. A baseball player at the University of Hartford, Connolly had a Master’s of science in physical education with a concentration in strength and conditioning.
South Carolina has announced two hires since Muschamp was introduced as head coach Monday – naming Travaris Robinson defensive coordinator and Bobby Bentley running backs coach. Shawn Elliott (offensive line coach) and Kurt Roper (offensive coordinator) also have been added to the staff, according to multiple sources, and both have appeared in photos with Muschamp and South Carolina recruits. Ellis Johnson also will join the defensive staff.
South Carolina hasn’t announced the hirings of Elliott, Roper or Johnson.
“We are going to assemble the best staff available,” Muschamp said.
