In a couple days, South Carolina basketball stars P.J. Dozier and Sindarius Thornwell will know their first NBA landing spots, or at least be in the process of picking them.
According to a range of Mock Drafts, both should hear their names called Thursday in the NBA Draft’s second round. Both Dozier and Thornwell got chances to work out with pro teams, attended the NBA Combine and picked up exposure though the process.
▪ Draft Express has Dozier going No. 50 to the Philadelphia 76ers. Thornwell lands at No. 58 to the New York Knicks.
▪ NBA.com’s projection put Thornwell at No. 49 to the Denver Nuggets and Dozier with the Boston Celtics at No. 53. It was one of the few that had Thornwell going first.
▪ NBADraft.net was the most optimistic, sending Dozier to Philadelphia at No. 36 and Thornwell to the Utah Jazz at 42.
Thornwell was an all-around statistical force last season, averaging 21.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.1 steals, often defending players far larger than him, winning SEC Player of the Year and leading South Carolina to its first Final Four.
Dozier is a 6-foot-6 point guard with the length to be a good defender on the next level. His shooting will be a question (under 30 percent from 3 in college), but a team could make a bet on his ceiling if that can develop.
