Two more games have been discovered as the wait for South Carolina’s nonconference basketball schedules continues.
The Gamecock men will host Wyoming on Dec. 6, and the Gamecock women will host Duke on Dec. 3, according to schedules released by the Cowboys and Blue Devils. USC is still finalizing its nonconference schedule for each team.
Frank Martin agreed to a three-game series with the Cowboys because of his relationship with Wyoming coach Allen Edwards. Martin coached Edwards as a youth and the two have worked out a 2-for-1 series, with the Gamecocks heading to Wyoming in 2018-19 and the Cowboys coming back to Columbia the following year.
The Gamecocks will open the 2017-18 season at Wofford on a date to be determined. It will be the first game in the Terriers’ new arena. Other known games on USC’s schedule are against Temple at Madison Square Garden (Nov. 30), hosting Massachusetts (Dec. 2) and hosting Texas Tech in the Big 12/SEC Challenge (Jan. 27).
The Gamecocks will also play at Clemson and at Florida International. They will participate in the Tire Pros Puerto Rico Tipoff from Nov. 16-19 although the potential opponents have changed. Appalachian State replaced Florida State in the event, joining Iowa State, Tulsa, UTEP, Boise State, Illinois State and Western Michigan.
In conference, USC will play Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Auburn and Florida in home-and-home series, and every other team once. The full league schedule has not been released.
The women’s game against Duke is the return game from a two-game series to which Dawn Staley agreed, after the two teams also played each other in 2014 and 2015. Not many opponents are known for the defending national champions, but they will play at Maryland on Nov. 13, and host Connecticut and play at Clemson on dates to be determined.
