News from Darrin Horn's press conference this afternoon:
Forward Damontre Harris -- the highest-rated recruit in USC's six-member freshman class -- will return after a one-game academic suspension. He impressed in the exhibition win versus Kentucky Wesleyan with five points, seven rebounds and two blocks in 14 minutes of action.
A needed rest?
Never miss a local story.
The team is considering red-shirting forward Carlton Geathers. The 6-foot-9 freshman from Georgetown came to campus with some knee issues that could use some time to heal, the coach said. Geathers is the only healthy player not to appear in the team's first two games. He helped Carvers Bay to the Lower State Championship Game this year after playing in just two seasons of high school ball.
He asked for it
Horn said he called ESPN seeking an early-season game on national TV. The Gamecocks got it all right -- against a team confident enough of making another Final Four appearance that the Spartans include the NCAA tournament dates in its season schedule. By the way, the 10 p.m. contest is part of a 12-game, 24-hour hoops marathon airing on several ESPN channels starting at midnight.
