South Carolina forward Sam Muldrow was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday, while point guard Bruce Ellington was named to the league's All-Freshman team.
Muldrow was sixth in the league in rebounding with 7.9 boards a game and led the SEC with 3.9 blocked shots a game. The senior from Florence set the school's career mark for blocked shots this season.
Muldrow also was named to the SEC's All-Defensive team for a second consecutive season.
Ellington, a native of Moncks Corner, ranked fourth among freshmen in the SEC in scoring (12 points a game) and assists (2.6 a game).
The SEC's regular-season champion, Florida, swept the Coach and Player of the Year honors with Billy Donovan and forward Chandler Parsons, respectively.
Kentucky forward Terrence Jones was named Freshman of the Year, while Tennessee center Brian Williams won the Sixth-Man of the Year.
