Lower Richland High began basketball practice Wednesday afternoon, and several coaches planned to be on hand to watch Clyde Trapp Jr.
According to LR coach Caleb Gaither, coaches from South Carolina, Charlotte and Rice were expected to be in his gym. He was thinking Gamecocks head coach Frank Martin would be among them.
Trapp (6-foot-4 guard) is coming off an official visit to Charlotte last weekend and the 49ers are hanging tough with him.
“He enjoyed Charlotte,” Gaither said. “He had a good time with the players. He went to a Hornets game when they played the Celtics. His parents pretty much liked it too. They like the staff, Mark Price, and all those guys. Been a few schools on him petty hard but Charlotte has been one that’s been on him pretty hard.”
Never miss a local story.
Trapp also has taken official visits to USC and Rice. This coming weekend, according to Gaither, Trapp will visit Clemson instead of Georgia Tech as planned.
Clemson has not yet offered Trapp but could do so on the visit, which Gaither said would begin Thursday night. Trapp’s AAU coach is former Clemson star guard Ed Scott, also a Lower Richland product.
Trapp doesn’t have a favorite yet, according to his coach, and has no definite time frame on a decision except that he plans to sign this month.
