York Prep 6-foot-9 2019 center D.J. Burns is a major climber with the major college scouts.
South Carolina offered him last week, joining Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Georgia and LSU on his offer list. Burns visited USC last week and met for about four hours with Gamecock head coach Frank Martin and assistants. The offer made the Gamecocks one of his favorites moving forward.
“Coach Martin and his staff are super serious about recruiting top talent and they don’t want to look over South Carolina kids,” Burns said. “He doesn’t just offer out of the blue, so I am honored. They use their bigs in a way that fits my style of play. They like that I can play with my back to the basket, face up and shoot well when needed and run the floor as needed with good pace.”
Burns said he has around 18 total offers at this point and another 20 schools are showing interest. Clemson is one of those showing interest. He said he does have a top five in his mind but he won’t publicize anything like that until November.
“I am focusing on finishing AAU then I’ll make a few visits in the fall to my top five,” Burns said. “USC, now that they offered, has moved way up in my top 5.”
Burns is a native of Clover but moved to Rock Hill four years ago. Last season he averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game.
