Marlboro County LB Lateek Townsend (6-3 207) Saturday announced a commitment to Clemson during the US Army All American Game In San Antonio. Townsend picked the Tigers over USC, Southern Cal, Florida and LSU.
"They were on him first," said Marlboro County coach Dean Boyd who was with Townsend as he made his announcement. "I had no clue. His dad knew but his mom didn't know. I just hope he doesn't waver back and forth and sticks with his commitment. He had been strong with Clemson all along. It's a good move for him. Either (Clemson or USC) would have been a good."
Townsend was expected to pick one of the in state schools. He took official visits to USC and Southern Cal and will take his official visit to Clemson January 14th. He is scheduled to visit LSU January 21st but that was only if he had not make a commitment.
Townsend is rated as one of the top prospects in the state this season and played in the Shrine Bowl. He has great speed and a knack for getting around the ball," his coach said. He's a big hitter." Townsend had 134 tackles and 11 sacks this past season.
