GoGamecocks takes an updated look at South Carolina's chances to land commitments from the top remaining prospects on the team's recruiting board.
Best bets for commitments
-- Jadeveon Clowney (6-6, 240), DE, South Pointe, Rock Hill, SC
Phil's take: Clowney is very comfortable with the USC staff, has several friends on team and would be playing very close to home. He also has the possibility of immediate playing time.
What's next: Clowney made an unofficial visit to USC this past weekend after canceling a trip to Florida State. He visited Clemson this past weekend. He will announce his decision on Feb. 14, his birthday.
-- Phillip Dukes (6-3, 285), DL, Manning High, Manning, SC
Phil's take: Shane Beamer has done excellent job with him, and USC has need at his position. Proximity to home is a big bonus. Dukes has been favoring USC and his coach says that remains the case.
What's next: USC coach Steve Spurrier and assistant Shane Beamer met with Manning defensive lineman Phillip Dukes and his mother at the school Wednesday morning. He has taken official visits to USC, Clemson, North Carolina and Alabama. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney made his in-home visit with Dukes Thursday. And Alabama recruiters Burton Burns and Chris Rumph also visited Thursday. Dukes' decision is expected on Tuesday.
