The USC baseball team Wednesday landed a commitment from OF Brian Goodwin (6-1 190) of Miami Dade Junior College.
Goodwin is considered the top junior college prospect in the country and a potential first round pick in this summer's draft.
Goodwin began his career at North Carolina. He was suspended for this season for academic reasons and transfered to the junior college in January. He would have been a sophomore at North Carolina this season.
As a freshman with the Tar Heels, the lefthanded batting Goodwin started all 60 games and had 7 home runs and 63 RBIs. This season he's batting .367 with 8 home runs and 32 RBIs.
He was drafted in the 17th round in 2009 by the White Sox but decided to enroll at UNC. He was also the Gatorade player of the year in North Carolina as a senior.
A recent mock draft had Goodwin going to the Braves in the first round this summer. His skills were compared to Andrew McCutchen or Kenny Lofton.
