Defensive back Rico McWilliams (6-0 175) of Hampton, Ga., committed to South Carolina Thursday night.
McWilliams had 18 offers including USC, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Florida, Kentucky, Michigan State, Nebraska, NC State, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin and Virginia. The Georgia defensive back also drew interest from Clemson.
McWilliams visited USC earlier this month with his parents and decided to make his decision Thursday.
"When we went there, everything just felt right," McWilliams said. "I don't know how to explain it, but I knew it was the right place for me."
Never miss a local story.
McWilliams said he likes the Gamecock coaching staff and USC's commitment to academics.
"They all make me feel at home," he said, "and South Carolina has been one of the best schools in academics in the SEC the last three years."
As for the strength of his commitment, McWilliams said, "I'm a man of my word. I'm a Gamecock now."
He is the seventh commitment for the 2012 class.
