Tyrone Haughton (6-9) of Miami is a key target of USC basketball coach Darrin Horn and will make an official visit with the Gamecocks this weekend.
He actually will arrive in Columbia on Thursday night.
Horn and assistant coach Neill Berry visited Haughton Monday.
“They are nice people,” Haughton said. “I have a nice relationship with them.”
Virginia Tech visited with Haughton Wednesday, and Alabama also has been in. Haughton has USC and Alabama at the top of his list with no leader.
“At the position I’m in, it’s kind of tough with two top teams going at it,” Haughton said. “Both teams want me real badly.”
He also plans to make official visits to Alabama and Virginia Tech before he decides.
“I want to see the coaches, the campus, a lot of things,” he said. “I want to see how they function.”
Haughton’s visit to USC will be his first. He said his mother might come in with him if she can find an affordable ticket.
Haughton said he can play center and power forward.
“Best part of my game is dunking,” he said. “And I have a good hook shot.”
Haughton could not recall his stats from last season.
“I’ve never cared about stats.”
