Class of 2013 QB Eddie Printz (6-4 195) of Marietta, Ga., committed to SMU in August, but that has not deterred USC.
"Coach (G.A.) Mangus has visited the school and been to a game this year and continues to recruit Eddie," coach Jep Irwin said. "That's a good thing. That's what you want."
Printz developed a strong relationship with the Mustangs coaching staff and thinks highly of head coach June Jones.
"He's one of the best offensive minds to come around in 20 years," Irwin said. "Eddie feels it's a program on the rise and felt good about going ahead and committing."
Printz made an unofficial visit to USC for last weekend’s game with Vanderbilt. Printz has offers from SMU, Purdue, Arkansas and NC State, with USC showing a lot of interest.
"Recruiting a quarterback can be tricky," Irwin said. "You don't want to extend offers to seven or eight guys because you're going to end up with a lot of unhappy kids. I feel confident he will get a lot of offers from around the SEC before it's all said and done."
As for Printz changing his mind, Irwin said, "It wouldn't surprise me at all to see him suiting up for SMU in the future."
