DE Jhaustin Thomas (6-6 240) of Decatur, GA made his commitment official Saturday telling the USC coaching staff Columbia is where he wanted to be.
His coach Mario Allen is confident the Gamecocks are the right fit for Thomas. "He just felt the most comfortable there," Allen said. "Coach (Lorenzo) Ward did a great job of recruiting him. They already have a very good defensive line and his athleticism lends well to what they are trying to do."
As for the strength of the commitment Allen said, "I would say it's very strong. Very, very strong. He feels he would have a good chance to play early and he may also look into playing basketball there. He's a strong power forward."
Thomas chose the Gamecocks over their Saturday opponent, Auburn. "I had a pretty good feeling early on that Jhaustin was going to South Carolina," Allen added.
