Defensive back Chris Moody of McDonough, Ga., switched his commitment Monday morning from Vanderbilt to South Carolina.
Moody (6-0, 190) made an official visit to USC over the weekend after committing to Vandy the previous weekend during an official visit.
While impressed by the campus and facilities, it was his feelings for defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward that won him over.
“The relationship I had with the position coach (Ward) was greater than Vandy,” Moody said. “He has put out a lot of good players. He’s been recruiting me a whole year and after I committed elsewhere, he still recruited me hard.”
He becomes the 25th and final member of the Gamecocks' 2012 class and the sixth for the secondary.
Moody played quarterback and safety at Henry County High School. He will start out as a corner at USC but will also get a look at safety. And he could be used on offense in the Wildcat formation.
Ward has been a terror on the recruiting trail in Georgia this recruiting season. Monday morning he pulled in his ninth commitment for the 2012 class, all from the state of Georgia.
Moody is the 12th overall pledge from Georgia, and he’s friendly with some of the other Gamecock commitments from his state.
“We’re going to take over,” Moody laughed.
He hopes to earn playing time as a freshman but will accept a redshirt if necessary. He will sign Wednesday morning at 10.
