South Carolina basketball coach Frank Martin reached across the border and into Canada to land his first commitment for the spring signing period Sunday night.
Six-foot-2 shooting guard Duane Notice of Toronto picked the Gamecocks over Duquesne.
Notice attends Thomas More Prep in Connecticut. He averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists per game this past season.
"I'm a competitor," Notice said Sunday night. "The opportunity presented a great challenge but my hunger is greater than the risk I'm taking. This is a reflection of the confidence my family has in me and I have in God and my work ethic."
Notice also had offers from Seton Hall, St. Bonaventure, Oregon State and Auburn.
Notice primarily played the two guard position but can also play the point. NorthPoleHoops.com ranks him the No. 4 Canadian prospect in this class.
He will be at least the fifth newcomer for Martin next season, joining three high school signees (Justin McKie, Sindarius Thornwell, Desmond Ringer) and a transfer (Tyrone Johnson) who have already signed.
