USC is getting one large player out of Fort Scott JC, KS in DL Abu Lamin (6-5 300). Now, the Gamecocks are going after his even larger teammate, OL Kareem Are (6-6 330). USC recruiter Deke Adams met Are for the first time Friday while checking on Abu. He liked what he saw and got film to offensive line coach Shawn Elliott.
Elliott also liked what he saw and called Are Monday with the offer. "He's excited about me and liked my film a lot and hopes I become a Gamecock," Are said of his conversation with Elliott. Florida State also has offered and Penn State has made an offer contingent on Are graduating in December which he said he's on track to do.
Florida State has recruited Are the longest and he heard Monday from Seminole line coach Rick Trickett. He is supposed to go to Penn State for the Nebraska game and he will take an official visit to USC. "I'm just waiting on a date," he said. He also hopes to visit Florida State. He's also hearing from Kansas State, South Florida, Temple and Maryland. He has an official visit scheduled for Temple for December 6th.
Are said Elliott likes his versatility because he can play tackle and guard. He's also played some tight end. Are, who is from Long Island and is close friends with Lamin, said the fact Lamin is going to USC is a factor. "Him being at South Carolina definitely makes me want to go there a little bit more," he said.
Are was committed to Connecticut out of high school but did not qualify. He will have three years to play two at the next level.
