USC recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. was not able to get DE Blake McClain of Jacksonville, FL to switch his visit this weekend to USC from Nebraska, but he was able to convince him to hold off on making a decision until after visiting USC.
So, McClain (6-3, 257) said Thursday night he will take his official visit to Nebraska this weekend and will visit USC after Signing Day. That visit will be either the first or second weekend in February. (Recruits have until April 1 to sign with a school.)
Spurrier Jr. rushed down to Jacksonville Thursday afternoon to meet with McClain, a three-star prospect who had decommitted from Florida State Wednesday. Nebraska was in on Wednesday and was able to nail down this weekend's visit.
But Spurrier Jr. was able to meet with McClain at school and at his home Thursday night and laid out for him the Gamecocks' situation at defensive end as well as some other selling points of the school and program.
Never miss a local story.
"He said the support you get from the academic center is incredible and they make sure you don't fail," McClain said. "The only way you fail out of their school is if you don't show up to class."
McClain's official visit to USC will be his first visit to the school. He said he's 50-50 between the schools. He will visit Nebraska this weekend by himself.
