Defensive back Jaire Alexander (5-11 170) of Charlotte made two visits to USC this month, including one Saturday with his parents, and the former Charlotte commitment plans to announce a new commitment Monday at noon.
The finalists are USC, Connecticut, Louisville and Kansas State. USC is the only one of those schools he has visited, but he said he remains in touch with the others.
Based on his review of his visits with the Gamecocks, it would be hard to expect Alexander to choose one of the other schools.
"I like the coaching staff and got a good vibe, a genuine feeling that they want me there," Alexander said. "I like the scheme. They put five DBs on the field and that's a chance for me to play early. They have a special need for DBs, so that's another opportunity for me to play early."
Alexander spent much of his time with secondary coach Grady Brown, who came by Rocky River High School this spring to initiate the recruiting process with him. He and his parents got a thorough tour of the campus and the football facilities.
"The facilities are nice and they are making new upgrades around the campus," he said. "I like the Gamecock Walk and the outdoor and indoor practice facilities. I like how the weight room is set up. And I really like the new protein bar."
Alexander plays corner and receiver. Last season he had 35 tackles, 5 interceptions, 11 pass deflections and 4 caused fumbles. He also caught 24 passes for 391 yards and a touchdown.
Alexander was one of several visitors to USC over the past two days. The others included DB Jalen Thompson of Mobile, AL, DB Damon Arnette of Fort Lauderdale, RB Ty'Son Williams of Crestwood and OL Jalen Merrick of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Arnette is on campus through Sunday and is another possible commitment candidate for the Gamecocks.
