Defensive lineman Dexter Wideman will enroll at Fork Union Prep in Virginia for this season and join the Gamecocks in January, according to his high school coach.
Wideman was not able to qualify academically for South Carolina for the fall semester and instead will head to Fork Union, according to Saluda High coach Stewart Young. His plan is to be a midyear enrollee at USC, Young confirmed.
Wideman (6-4, 275) was a four-star prospect, a Shrine Bowl selection and Under Armour All-American. He originally committed to Florida State but flipped to the Gamecocks on signing day.
As a senior had 71 tackles (10.5 for loss), five sackes, 11 quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three pass breakups, two blocked kicks. He was recruited at USC by G.A. Mangus and Deke Adams.
