LHP Hank Nichols (6-5 195) of JL Mann committed Saturday to USC for the 2015 class. He's the 16th reported commitment for the class. Nichols originally committed to The Citadel in December of 2012.
Here's the scouting report on Nichols by PerfectGame.com:
Extra-large, athletic build with long limbs, high waist and a lean, projectable build with room to fill out. Primary left-handed pitcher, throws from a three-quarter arm slot with a short, compact, and easy arm action coming through the back side. Stays tall on back side and at release but does a nice job of working downhill and low in the zone. Creates angle on fastball, topping out at 85 mph which he locates to both sides of the plate well and projects for more velocity. Changeup is more advanced of secondaries, shows a strong feel for the pitch and occasionally cuts it and shows a 1-7 curveball at 71 mph. Nice overall feel on the mound. Named to Southeast Top Prospect List. Excellent student.
