South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier and assistants Lorenzo Ward and Deke Adams met in Greenwood on Saturday with committed defensive end Marquavius Lewis and family members for about an hour.
Lewis met with recruiters from Auburn on Friday at Hutchinson Junior College in Kansas before heading to Greenwood. He plans to sign Wednesday, and as of now he's "90 percent" sure he'll stick with the Gamecocks.
"It went well," Lewis said of his meeting with the Gamecocks. "Right now I am signing with South Carolina and that's probably how it's going to be. They said I'm the headliner of the class and they want me to come in an lead by example and do everything the way they know I can."
But Auburn is not going away quietly, as recruiter Rodney Garner made a strong pitch, "saying come into a program that's already built to win, have first-rounders on the D-line, and the players coach Garner has put into the league," said Lewis.
There was also the subject of new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp being brought up.
"It is very interesting because of his background and everything," Lewis said. "He's such a great defensive coordinator."
Lewis said the Auburn meeting did give him something more to think about regarding the Tigers.
"I was thinking of it but I'm still South Carolina right now," Lewis said. "The success of the Auburn program still caught my eye and everything, and coach Garner and everybody."
Lewis said no other coaches are coming to see him before the dead period, but he'll be talking on the phone with his recruiters until he signs.
