* DB Jeremiah Dinson of Hialeah, Fla., is still considering a visit to South Carolina but the date has not been set. He plans to call recruiter Grady Brown soon to firm that up. The two did talk earlier this week. Dinson remains committed to Kentucky. He will visit Florida on Jan. 16 and Auburn on Jan. 23. He's choosing between USC and Louisville for the final visit on Jan. 30. Dinson said the Florida offer was important because it's an in-state school, and he was blindsided by the Auburn offer. Kentucky remains his favorite.
* DB Maurice Smitherman of Adamsville, Ala., will visit Texas Tech on Jan. 16 and USC on Jan. 30. He has been committed to Mississippi State and visited there last month. Smitherman talked with Brown earlier this week and Brown is planning an in-home visit with him once the contact period goes live next week. Smitherman said he's feeling more solid with his commitment to the Bulldogs but wants to take those other two official visits.
* OL Patrick Allen of Reisterstown, Md., talked last week with USC recruiting coordinator Steve Spurrier Jr. Allen is interested in taking an unofficial visit to USC but has not decided on a date. He's looking primarily at USC, Tennessee, Georgia, Oklahoma and Notre Dame. He's a former Georgia commitment. Notre Dame got in touch with him last week but has not offered. Allen has taken his five official visits to Georgia, Oklahoma, Michigan, Tennessee and Arkansas. There is no favorite.
* Shrine Bowl WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside of Dorman High School is a Stanford commitment and is still waiting to hear from the school about being accepted. If he is accepted, he said he will no doubt go to Stanford. He is also hearing from USC, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. He talked with Spurrier Jr. and Shawn Elliott earlier this week and was told if things don't work out at Stanford, they would be interested in talking with him more seriously. He will make his official visit to Stanford on Jan. 16 and hopes to find out then if he's going to be accepted. He has not scheduled any other official visits.
