South Carolina women’s basketball sophomore guard Tina Roy had successful surgery last week to repair an ACL injury in her right knee, the school announced Tuesday.
South Carolina Athletics medical director, Dr. Jeffrey Guy, performed the surgery at Palmetto Richland Hospital. There is no definitive timeline for Roy’s return to the Gamecock lineup.
“It is always disappointing when an injury happens to a player who was working so hard this summer to be a key contributor to our team this season,” coach Dawn Staley said in a statement. “Setbacks are part of the game, and our team will continue to focus on its goals while supporting Tina through her recovery. We’re confident there will be great things ahead for her.”
Roy played in 34 of the team’s 35 games during last season’s run into the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. She averaged 4.4 points and was second on the team in 3-pointers made with 32.
