Dawn Staley has found the first piece of her next recruiting class.
Four-star wing Elisia “Lele” Grissett committed to South Carolina this week, according to a source close to Grissett. Ranked fourth at her position and 31st overall in the country, the 6-foot-1 Grissett hails from Hillside High in Durham, N.C.
“Ultra-athletic perimeter performer with off-the-charts potential; quick-leaper, attacks glass,” reads Grissett’s recruiting profile on ESPNHoopGurlz. “Scores vs. contact; drives and finishes plays in traffic; emerging perimeter game consistency is key to next level impact; a stock-riser in the class of 2017.”
Grissett’s game is versatility. She averaged 22.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 3.2 steals and 3.0 blocks last year as she led the Hornets to a 28-2 season and a berth in the state semifinals. At the Super 60 Girls Showdown in May, Grissett won MVP honors after playing all five positions during the tournament.
Never miss a local story.
The pledge fills the first of four open scholarships for the class of 2017. Grissett will play her freshman season alongside a sturdy group of seniors – Allisha Gray, Kaela Davis, Bianca Cuevas-Moore and 2016 SEC Player and Defensive Player of the Year A’ja Wilson. She’ll also get to play with Kentucky transfer Alexis Jennings, who is sitting out 2016-17 before resuming her career in 2017-18.
