Greensboro, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Watney carded a 5-under 65 on Saturday and that helped him jump into the lead after 54 holes Wyndham Championship, which is the final event on the PGA Tour's regular-season schedule.
Watney ended three rounds at 14-under-par 196. He is a 5-time winner on the PGA Tour, but his last victory came in 2012 at The Barclays.
Brad Fritsch also posted a 65 in round three to move into second place at minus-13.
Heath Slocum, who shared the second-round lead, shot 2-under 68. He dipped into a share of third place at 12-under-par 198. Slocum was joined there by Freddie Jacobson (66). Slocum needs a third-place finish or better to qualify for the FedExCup playoffs, which start next week.
Scott Langley, who was tied with Slocum after 36 holes, managed a 1-under 69 and he slid into a tie for fifth at minus-11. Brandt Snedeker, the 2007 champion, and 2011 winner Webb Simpson both shot 66s in round three at Sedgefield Country Club to join Langley in fifth place.
Andres Romero fired a 6-under 64, the low round of the day, to jump into a 6- way tie for sixth at 10-under 200.
