Spring Valley (6-0) vs. Blythewood (4-2)

Site: Harry Parone Stadium.

Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Game notes: Spring Valley continued its winning ways last week, scoring a convincing 41-21 win over previously undefeated White Knoll. The Vikings are off to their best start since 1994. SV’s double-wing offense continues to click. John Miller ran for 217 yards and four touchdowns and finished with 292 all-purpose yards at White Knoll. The fleet senior wing back leads the Midlands in rushing yards (1006), average yards per carry (10.4) and scoring (18 TDs, 108 points). QB Chris Adams had his best passing game of the season (102 yards, one TD) and ran for 99 yards and one score. On defense, Josh Harlan leads the Midlands with 97 tackles. Christian Miller has a huge game vs. White Knoll with 13 tackles and three sacks. Christian Miller has 71 tackles, 9 tackles for loss and 10 sacks to date Blythewood closed non-region testing with a 34-20 win over Aiken. As usual, Lynard Jamison was the prime playmaker on offense. The senior caught six passes for 88 yards and one TD and ran for one score. To date, Jamison has 38 receptions for 552 yards and four TDs and 223 yards rushing and eight scoring runs. David Israel threw for 138 yards and three TDs in his first start at quarterback. Jalen Williams had a brilliant game on defense with three fumble recoveries, one interception and one forced fumble. So far, Williams has 51 tackles, 7.4 tackles for loss, four sacks, two forced fumbles, six QB hurries in addition to his four takeaways. Hassan Belton (57 tackles, 7 TFL, 3 sacks, 7 hurries), Josh Wilkes (54 tackles, 3 TFL, 3 interceptions), Terrel Vaughn (33 tackles, 9 TFL, 4 sacks) and Aaron Peak (14 tackles, 10 PBU, 2 blocked kicks) are the other standouts on defense.

Series history: Blythewood has never faltered against the Vikings, winning all five previous encounters.

Lugoff-Elgin (0-6) vs. Richland NE (0-6)

Site: L-E Stadium.

Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Game notes: Something has to give in the Region 4-4A opener. Lugoff-Elgin has lost 21 straight dating back to 2011. Richland Northeast has dropped 10 in a row (a school record losing skid) and is facing the prospect of a winless season for the first time in school history if it can’t get past L-E Simeon Kelly ran for one touchdown and threw for another, but Richland NE managed only 204 offensive yards in a 30-14 loss to Sumter L-E senior standout Shon Belton ran for 135 yards and three TDs and was 8-for-16 passing for 82 yards and one score in a 48-28 loss at Lexington. RB Aldrecio Wells chipped in 117 rushing yards.

Series history: RNE took a 24-21 win in the first meeting of the teams in 2012.

Ridge View (2-4) vs. Irmo (2-4)

Site: Blythewood District 2 Stadium.

Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Game notes: Irmo closed non-region testing with two straight wins, including last week’s epic 42-41 overtime win against archrival Dutch Fork. RB Shyheim Copeland inched closer to the 1,000-yard mark with 104 yard rushing and one touchdown run last week. He also caught two passes for 72 yards and one TD, plus the game-winning two-point conversion pass from Demetrius Lewis in OT. Lewis was 10-for-21 passing for 240 yards and four scoring tosses to four different receivers. Manny Banks was the best of the lot with four receptions for 109 yard and one TD Ridge View enters region play in the midst of a three-game losing streak. The Blazers defense has allowed 107 points (35.7 ppg) during the skid. RV is coming off a 44-7 pasting at the hands of South Florence.

Series history: Irmo has won five straight against Ridge View, 13 of the 16 meetings since the 1998 debut.
