Game notes: Chapin is on the verge of something special. A win this week assures the Eagles a No. 1 playoff seed and at least a share of a region championship for the first time since 1992. Chapin remained unbeaten in region play with a 36-19 win over Lower Richland last week. QB Matt Charpia was the star, completing 15 of 24 passes for 332 yards and five touchdowns. Carter White had a huge game at receiver with five catches for 187 yards and three TDs. Alex White caught three passes for 83 yards and two scores. Linebackers Tyler Weimer, Chandler Engle and lineman Daniel Piester were the defensive stars. Weimer was credited with 23 tackles, Engle rang up 18 tackles, including three TFL. Piester had 13 tackles and three TFL Dreher rebounded from a devastating loss to Westwood with a 30-13 win over Camden. QB Avery Armstrong threw for 187 yards and one touchdown and ran for 70 yards and one score. Xavier Diamond was the other impact player for the Blue Devils with eight tackles on defense and two touchdowns via recoveries of bad snaps on Camden punts.
Series history: Chapin has won three in a row to increase its series lead to 10-5.
Westwood (4-4, 2-1) vs. Camden (5-3, 1-2)
Site: Westwood District 2 Stadium. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: Westwood can clinch its first-ever state playoff berth with a win. The Redhawks moved closer to the prize with a 34-17 win over defending region champion A.C. Flora. Christian Brown was the go-to man, finishing with a school-record 298 rushing yards on 28 carries and three touchdown runs. Brown, who started the season as a defense-only player, is up to 1,058 yards and 12 TDs on 132 carries. Stephen Timmons led the hit parade on defense with 11 tackles, including 1.5 TFL Camden is reeling with two straight mistake-filled losses. The Bulldogs have been especially bad in the punt game. Last week, two errant snaps turned into Dreher touchdown returns in a 31-13 loss.
Series history: Westwood beat Camden 27-7 a year ago for the first varsity win in school history.
A.C. Flora (2-6, 0-3) vs. Lower Richland (4-4, 1-2)
Site: Memorial Stadium. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: A.C. Flora finished first or tied for first place in region play in each of the past three seasons. The Falcons must win its final two games to have a postseason shot. A loss this week means Flora misses the playoff cut. The Falcons took a 34-17 hit last week against Westwood. The defense surrendered 450 yards, 387 on the ground Lower Richland was burned for 332 yards and five touchdowns by Chapin quarterback Matt Charpia in a 36-19 loss last week. The Diamond Hornets can lock up a playoff spot with a win in conjunction with a Camden loss to Westwood. A loss this week puts the LR postseason bid in jeopardy.
Series history: A.C. Flora has won four in a row, but Lower Richland still has a commanding 17-8 series edge.
