Dutch Fork (7-2, 3-0 Region 5-4A) vs. Lexington (8-1, 3-0)
Site: Dutch Fork Stadium. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: It’s the heavyweight showdown for the Region 5-4A championship. Both teams have already secured playoff invitations Dutch Fork has fallen off the radar a bit following back-to-back losses to Goose Creek and Irmo, but the Silver Foxes have gone 3-0 with a 54.7 scoring average in region play. Last week, DF smoked White Knoll 62-14. QB Derek Olenchuk was 12-for-16 passing for 182 yards and four touchdowns. RB Matt Colburn ran for 167 yards and three scores on 15 carries. Marquis Spearman ran for 65 yards and two TDs in relief of Colburn. Deion Frasier had the best night among the receivers with two catches for 77 yards and two scores. Lane Ecton led the way on defense with 10 tackles and one PBU Lexington has had a great run so far under new coach Josh Stepp. The Wildcats have only stumbled once against unbeaten Spring Valley. The best win to date was an 18-14 triumph over North Augusta in the region opener. Last week, the Wildcats did a 50-40 number on Aiken. Will Hunter was 15-for-28 passing for 170 yards and five touchdowns. Keelo Norris was the primary target, finishing with eight catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Jayson Hooper hauled in two scoring passes. Garvin Jackson overcame three fumbles to post 182 yards rushing and two TDs on 32 carries. Jordan Carr helped elevate a lackluster defensive performance with three interceptions.
Series history: Dutch Fork rolled to a 55-21 win last season, cutting Lexington’s series edge to 8-5.
South Aiken (1-8, 0-3 Region 5-4A) vs. White Knoll (6-3, 1-2)
Site: Findley Memorial Stadium. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: White Knoll needs a win to keep its state playoffs hopes alive as an at large team. The Timberwolves have been outclassed by the three good teams they have faced so far – Spring Valley, North Augusta and Dutch Fork. WK took its roughest hit of the season last week in a 62-14 loss to Dutch Fork. One highlight was a 109-yard rushing performance by fullback E’Mond Brown. Otherwise, it was a performance best forgotten South Aiken is playing out the string. The Thoroughbreds have lost eight in a row since opening the season with a win over RNE. A win would make South Aiken’s season.
Series history: White Knoll has won three in a row, but the Thoroughbreds still leads the series by a 7-4 margin.
