South Carolina high school playoff capsules for volleyball, tennis

Class 3A Upper State finals

Wednesday, 6 p.m.

Led by all-state outside hitter Becca Barton, the Chapin Eagles are looking for their first championship since 1999. The 2012 state runner-up Pickens squad has dominated Upper State competition and has not lost a game in third round of the playoffs. Chapin defeated No. 4 Eastside in four games and went to five before defeating Chapman in the third round. Pickens is led by all-state players Brianna O’Shields and Michaela Leslie.



Class 3A Lower State finals

Wednesday, 6 p.m.

Defending champion North Myrtle Beach finished the regular season with a No. 1 ranking in the coaches poll. Airport finished 10th. The Eagles have had a tough road, defeating James Island in five games in the second round and upsetting No. 4 Myrtle Beach in the third round. Breanna Hampton leads the Eagles against Marci Chestnut and the 14-3 Chiefs.



Class 3A Upper State final

Wednesday, 5 p.m.

Travelers Rest is 19-2 and looking for its first Class 3A title bid, while the Falcons are hoping to earn their second consecutive shot at the championship. The Falcons (23-3) are led by Shelby Prince and Emily Sandlin. Travelers Rest has won every court in the postseason.


Class 4A Lower State final

Wednesday, 5 p.m.

Dutch Fork topped Lexington twice in Region 5-4A , but beating them a third time could prove difficult. In their third meeting of the season, these region opponents expect a tough match. The undefeated Silver Foxes put Lauren Joch up against Katie Thompson at No. 1 singles, and Sam Calais against Amy Lance at No. 2. In their Oct. 17 match, four courts went to third-set tie-breaks before Dutch Fork won 5-1.
