Chapin’s girls basketball team had a break-even season with a young, inexperienced squad a year ago, finishing 12-12 overall with earning the No. 3 state playoff seed out of tough Region 4-3A.
With six veterans returning, the Eagles expected bigger thing in 2013-14.
Seniors ShaLeighya Sulton and Madyson White are the team leaders. Sulton averaged 14.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.7 blocks and 3.9 steals last season. The 5-foot-10 forward has signed with Jacksonville University. White, who will play at Newberry, is another 5-10 forward who averaged 3.2 points and 6.5 rebounds.
Juniors Katie Lass (6.0 ppg, 2.3 apg, 2.1 spg) and Sarah Jenkins (2.1 ppg, 1.3 apg) and freshmen Hannah Davis (5.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 2.0 apg) and Makenzye Whitman (3.3 ppg, 1.8 spg) round out the veteran cast.
Promising newcomers include freshmen Kenzie Currie and Kennedy Waring and eighth-grader Regan Dargan.
