Preview: Westwood boys basketball

The Redhawks made some noise in their inaugural campaign. Qualifying for the state playoffs is the second-season priority.

Westwood went 7-15 overall and failed to make the state playoff cut, but the Redhawks inaugural boys basketball season had numerous highlights.

Terry Dozier’s rookie team split two non-region series with school district rivals Richland Northeast and Blythewood, swept playoff-bound Chapin in Region 4-3A play and closed the campaign with an upset of traditional Midlands powerhouse and Region 4 champion Lower Richland.

“The guys have worked hard in the off-season, and we have high expectations of making a run in the state playoffs,” said Dozier.

Seniors Gerald Vaughn and Antonio Wright, junior Adonus Lee and sophomore Jordan Watson are the returning starters. Seniors Jaylen Adams and Napoleon Goodson and sophomore Xavier Miller are also in the regular rotation.
