Ridge View’s boys basketball team starts the new season with an unproven cast of performers after graduating 13 seniors off last season’s 15-11 squad and advanced to the third round of the Class 4A state playoffs.
“We have 13 players, including seven sophomores, who never played varsity basketball before so this might be the youngest ever here at Ridge View,” said Blazers coach John Combs. “The lack of varsity experience is our biggest weakness, and we’re not an especially big team.”
The early team leaders, based on experience include sophomore Justin Alewine, seniors Torry Robinson and Quintony Washington and junior Dextor Foster.
Alewine, a transfer from Westwood, is the only player on the team who has ever started is a varsity game or played significant varsity minutes. He is penciled in as the Blazers new point guard.
Robinson and Washington were on the varsity roster last season, but did not see much playing time. Foster, who has a solid all-around game, should be a major contributor.
