LR boys reach Pepsi Classic semifinals

Lower Richland advanced to the semifinals of the Pepsi Carolina Classic semifinals with a dramatic 60-59 win over Hartsville on Saturday at West Florence High.

The Diamond Hornets (6-2) will take on South Florence on Monday at 7:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to the tournament championship game on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. The loser earns a spot in the consolation finale at 4:30 p.m.

Senior star Brandon Stroman tallied 22 points for LR against Hartsville, including the game-winning field goal with 11 seconds to go.

The Diamond Hornets opened the tournament with an easy 81-40 win over Florence Christian on Friday. The rout began with a 15-2 LR run at the outset. Jacori Nelson led the way with 12 points, while Stroman and Daniel Tisdale chipped in 11 points apiece.
