Dutch Fork swept out of first place

It was a tough night Friday for Dutch Fork’s girls and boys basketball teams. Both Silver Foxes squads arrived at North Augusta with a share of first place in Region 5-4A. Both teams left for home in second place.
The DF girls team saw its 18-game region winning streak end when Breanna Hightower dropped in the decisive shot in the final seconds for a 48-46 win for the host Yellow Jackets.
North Augusta (9-9, 5-0) had sole possession of first place heading into today’s game at Lexington.
Dutch Fork (9-7, 4-1) looks to rebound today at home against last-place South Aiken.
In the nightcap, North Augusta broke a three-way tie atop the standings with a 65-55 win over the Silver Foxes.
The Yellow Jackets and Aiken now share first place with 4-1 conference records. North Augusta travels to face Lexington today. The Wildcats, who lost to White Knoll on Friday, are fighting for their playoff lives.
Dutch Fork (12-7, 3-2) plays winless-in-the-region South Aiken today.
