C.A. Johnson’s quest for Region 1-3A basketball glory is on the line this week.
The Green Hornets boys and girls teams enter penultimate week of the regular season in first place. With three road games in four days on the docket this week CAJ’s postseason standing could be determined by Friday.
The key game for the Green Hornet boys (10-8, 4-0) is tonight’s game at Great Falls. CAJ opened the region campaign with a 76-57 romp over the Red Devils in Columbia behind a balanced attack featuring Peter Goodman (16 points, 6 assists, 4 steals), William Tobe (14 points), Benjamin Holmes (12 points, two steals), Nate Nelson (10 points, 4 assists, 3 steals).
Goodman is averaging 17.6 points a game, backed by Benjamin Holmes (9.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg), Tobe (9.4 ppg, 6.3 rpg), Mike Knox (8.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.8 apg, 2.3 spg), Bre’ondre Johnson (8.7 ppg, 4.0 apg, 2.7 spg) and Robert Riley (7.7 ppg, 2.7 apg, 1.6 spg).
The Johnson girls (7-11, 4-0) enter the week tied for first place with Lamar. The teams meet two times down the stretch. The first is Thursday’s make-up game in Lamar. The contenders square off in the regular season finale on Feb. 13.
Sophomore Demeatrius Bryant leads the Hornets with a 12.4 scoring average, and has solid backing from Ilyssa Booker (6.8 ppg), Shontavia Bacote (6.6 ppg), Kaitlin Pickens (6.1 ppg).
