FRIDAY, WE discussed the players around the state in contention for the Class of 2015 Top Twenty spots in the SCVarsity Top 100 list. Today, we’ll focus on the Midlands-area players who are among the almost 500 players on that list that will be crunched down to 100 by July. Here are 10 players to watch. These are in alphabetical order, not by order of ranking.
Hassan Belton, Linebacker, Blythewood , 6-0, 210 – Belton is one of the top defensive players in the Midlands. A physical ball hunter, Belton has an excellent chance at garnering offers this offseason.
Jordan Carr, Defensive Back, Lexington , 6-0, 175 – Carr is a dynamic player in the secondary with an extremely quick break on the ball. He is one of the most physical defensive backs in the state.
Matt Colburn, Running Back, Dutch Fork , 5-8, 180 – Colburn is one of the most dangerous ball carriers in the state. He’s explosive, has deceptive power, is elusive, and has great field vision.
Rion Davis, Safety, A.C. Flora , 6-0 175 – Davis is one of the top secondary players in the state. He’s aggressive and physical. Could be one of Midlands’ more heavily recruited players.
Stephen Haralambis, Defensive Tackle, Chapin , 6-3, 278 – A two-way player for the Eagles, he has a good motor and put up solid numberslast season. Could garner attention as a defensive tackle.
Freddie Phillips, Athlete, Pelion , 6-1, 180 – Phillips is listed as an athlete because he plays both ways, but his home at the next level could be at safety. Solid prospect and one of the Midlands’ top five.
Johnathan Sutton, Linebacker, Swansea , 5-11, 210 – Sutton is the Midlands’ top prospect for the Class of 2015 and is, probably, top 10 statewide. Physical, pad-level player with a nose for the ball.
Ja’lon Williams, Defensive End, Spring Valley , 6-3, 230 – Solid, aggressive edge man. Strong enough to put his hand on the ground and play inside. True sleeper.
Tyson Williams, Running Back, Crestwood , 6-0, 195 – One of the top running back prospects in the state. Look for him to be heavily recruited by FBS schools.
Joseph Young, Running Back, Fairfield Central , 6-1, 190 – Strong prospect. Powerful, physical runner with good speed and field vision. Already has offers. Probably one of Midlands’ top 10 prospects.
