The winter sports schedule in the Midlands is taking a major hit as sleet, snow and freezing rain is closing in.
The state championship wrestling matches at Dreher on Saturday have been cancelled. The finals in the three classifications at three different neutral-mat site will be announced when the semifinals are completed later this week in Class 4A and 3A.
In basketball, the situation in Region 5-3A is the most confused. The real issue is the regularly schedule final round of games on Thursday is also in jeopardy, given the weather forecast.
Region 5-4A has rescheduled its Tuesday games, but is also facing the prospect to having its final round of games on Thursday put on hold, as well.
The key C.A. Johnson vs. Lamar Region 3-1A twinbill on Thursday has been moved to Friday.
Tuesday’s rescheduled games include:
Irmo at Spring Valley – Saturday (girls at 5 p.m., boys to follow)
Blythewood at Richland Northeast – Saturday (girls at noon, boys to follow)
Lexington at Dutch Fork – Friday (regular starting times)
Lower Richland vs. River Bluff at Gilbert HS – Saturday (girls at 11 a.m., boy to follow)
A.C. Flora at Westwood – Saturday (girls at noon, boys to follow)
Swansea at Brookland-Cayce – Saturday (girls at noon, boys to follow)
Eau Claire at Columbia - Saturday (girls at 5 p.m., boys to follow)
Hammond at Augusta Christian - Saturday (girls at 5 p.m., boys to follow)
North Central at Fairfield Central – Friday (regular starting times)
