This week’s inclement weather threw a wrench into the S.C. High School League’s postseason schedule.
League commissioner Jerome Singleton laid out plans for rescheduling the completion of its wrestling tournaments and the start of the boys and girls basketball championships.
The winter storm rolled in just as the SCHSL wrestling semifinals were to be contested. The championships scheduled for Saturday at Dreher have been postponed, Singleton said, and moved to dates and locations as agreed upon by the participating teams.
The Class 3A semifinals are scheduled for Saturday (St. James at Socastee) and Monday (Belton Honea Path at Eastside), with the championship match set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, hosted by River Bluff. Airport will host the 2A title match between Liberty and Battery Creek at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In Class 4A, Lexington was due to travel to Summerville for the Lower State final earlier this week when the weather was at its worst. The match will be 6p.m. Saturday at Summerville.
The League is requiring that the semifinals and championship match be completed by Thursday.
The winter weather also disrupted the final week of the regular season basketball competition. Cancellations and postponements began with Tuesday night’s games.
All games that determine region standings must be played by Tuesday. This makes for a long week for some teams, as the playoffs are set to begin on Wednesday and Thursday.
