Sophomore right-handed pitcher Rhett Bane pitched six strong innings and Marshall Pratte and Brice Kirven homered that helped third-ranked Lexington to a 8-3 win over No. 5 Mauldin in the Red Bank Invitational (RBI) high school baseball tournament at White Knoll Field on Sunday. The Wildcats won three of four games against ranked opponents in the tournament.
Lexington, which opens Region 5-AAAA play on Tuesday at North Augusta at 7:00, improved to 3-1.
Justin Bowers drew a two-out walk in the top the first inning and Pratte followed with a two-run homer to left field, his second of the season, that gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

Lexington increased its lead in the second inning. Michael Smoak singled and Ryan Brown doubled with two outs and Kirven followed with a three-run homer to left that stretched Lexington’s lead to 5-0.
In the fifth inning Smoak had an RBI single while Jared Bostic and Jordan Buster added RBI grounders that gave Lexington an 8-0 advantage. Mauldin got an RBI single from Grant Bodison and an RBI double from Cory Bynum in the seventh inning for the final margin.
Bane (1-0), making his first career varsity appearance, earned the win allowing just five hits with two strikeouts. He surrendered only two fly outs and recorded 10 ground ball outs including three double plays. Griffin Templeton (0-1) was the starter and the loser for the Mavericks.
