Preview: River Bluff baseball

The first-year Gators plan to compete.

River Bluff High makes its regular season varsity debut on March 12 at home against Irmo.

The rookie Gators are coached by Mark Bonnette, who spent the past 11 seasons as the pitching coach at White Knoll. Bonnette was a football and baseball star at Airport High. He served as the head coach for two seasons at Silver Bluff before moving to White Knoll.

Senior Reece Burnett (P/3B), junior Sean Parsons (1B) and sophomores Will Bradford (OF) and Brandon Tillmon (P/OF) are Gators to watch.

“We should be strong defensively up the middle,” said Bonnette. “My biggest concerns are about our youth and inexperience. We are in a very tough region, but the goal is to be competitive game in and game out and compete for a playoff spot in our first year.”
