Preview: Pelion baseball

The veteran Panthers hope to do more than dominate Region 3-2A this spring.

Pelion blew through Region 3-2A without incident last spring, but the Panthers hope to do a little more than dominate a weak conference this season.

With a veteran team in place, the Panthers should do a little better than last season’s 15-10 overall grade and a disappointing 0-2 playoff showing.

Pelion returns all but two starters from last season’s club. The key men are Tyler Poole, Zach Hawkins and Dominick Holderness who are the coire of the pitching staff and regulars in the field when not on the hill. Poole and Hawkins are the top of the rotation guys.

Poole plays at the corner infield spots when not piching, Hawkins mans shortstop and Holderness usually handles chores at first base.

The seasoned cast also includes Daniel Hawins, Andrew Kneece, Tripp Hanson, Mark Kneece, Austin Fogle, Dalton Smith and Dylan Fairey.

The Panthers open the regular season on Wednesday at neighboring Gilbert and open the region title defense on Friday at home against Eau Claire.

Pelion’s reign in Region 3-2A may be challenged this season by North Central and Fairfield Central.
