Irmo at Blythewood
Fourth-ranked Irmo is fresh from a 3-2 shootout win at Lexington on Friday in an almost exact rematch of last season’s 4A state championship outing. The Yellow Jackets (6-1) open the Region 4-3A campaign against the sixth-ranked, 6-1 Bengals who have only stumbled against Lexington to date – by a 3-2 margin.
A.C. Flora at River Bluff
It’s a early first-place showdown in Region 4-3A The first-year Gators are off to a 6-1 start (1-0 in region) under former Irmo coach Phil Savatz and are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A. River Bluff opened the season with a 3-1, third-place showing at the Bryan Ostrower Soccer Showcase in Rock Hill. The Gators have scored 30 goals to date and posted five shutouts Sixth-ranked Flora stands at 3-2, including Region 4-3A wins over Camden and Chapin.
Brookland-Cayce at Dutch Fork
Class 3A second-ranked Brookland-Cayce (5-2) is coming off a sweep of Bishop England and Academic Magnet during last weekend’s Lowcountry trip. Dutch Fork (4-3) is No. 14 in the latest 4A poll, but the Silver Foxes have just one success that can be deemed a quality win so far – a 1-0 decision against Nation Ford on March 1.
River Bluff at A.C. Flora
The seventh-ranked Gators are off to a 3-2 overall start, 1-0 in Region 4-3A play in their first varsity season. River Bluff scored a 1-0 win at Camden on Friday in their region debut Flora (2-2-1, 0-1) fell from the No. 2 spot in the Class 3A state rankings to No. 4 in the wake of its 2-0 loss to Chapin in the region opener for both squads on Friday. Though it is still early, the Falcons’ bid for a second straight region may be doomed with another stumble before the rematch with Chapin on April 8.
Dreher at Camden
Dreher (6-0, 2-0) has yet to stumble but faces its first challenging test of the season in this Region 4-3A match against the improved Bulldogs. Dreher has yet to allow an opposition goal Camden advanced to the Nash preseason tournament finals at North Myrtle Beach, but has been in a scoring slump – going four straight matches without finding the back of the net.
