Ex-USC player to coach Lexington

Lexington High has selected Courtney Newton as the girls basketball coach.
Newton played basketball at USC under coach Dawn Staley and was a captain of the 2011–2012 team that made it to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
She owns a share of the school record for 3-point field goal percentage in a game, hitting all five attempts against Georgia on Jan. 27, 2011.
Newton played basketball at Flowery Branch (Ga.) High, and earned a spot on the Georgia All-Star Team her senior year after averaging 24.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Newton, a school counselor at Lexington, earned her bachelor’s degree in experimental psychology and her educational specialist degree in counselor education USC.
