SV earns another region lacrosse title

Spring Valley defeated Richland Northeast 17-5 on Thursday to secure its third straight Region 4-4A boys lacrosse championship.
The Vikings open the state playoffs on Tuesday, but will not know their seeding position and opponent until Saturday.
Eli Burch paced the balanced Spring Valley attack with five goals. Paul Currey and Gerard Smith backed Burch with four goals and one assist apiece. Matthew Hogue and DeShan Wilson tallied two goals each. Hogue also was credited with three assists.
Currey (31 goals, 20 assists), Hogue (35 goals, 11 assists), Noah Diamond (17 goals, 22 assists) and Wilson (22 goals, 15 assists) are the top offensive producers for the 9-4 Vikings.
Gerard Smith (81 ground balls), Hogue (75) and Jay Johnson (71) lead the team in the key defensive statistic. Smith has also contributed 19 goals on the attack.
