Cameron Matthews' two-run, pinch-hit single in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted AAAA No. 3 Lexington to a thrilling 6-5 win over AAA No. 1 A.C. Flora in high school baseball action on Military Appreciation Day at Wildcats Field on Saturday. Defending Class 4A state champion Lexington improved to 10-4 overall and plays host to T.C. Roberson (N.C.) at 7:00 on Monday. The defending 3A state champion Falcons dropped to 11-2 with their second loss in a row. In the decisive bottom of the sixth inning, Trey Watts walked and Will Lacount singled to start the inning. After William Hunter moved the runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt, Matthews singled to left field on a 1-0 pitch scoring Watts and courtesy runner Dalton Lansdowne with the game-winning runs. Lexington built a 4-1 third inning lead thanks to Marshall Pratte's three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the third inning. It was Pratte's fourth homer of the season and his second in two days. He also homered in the Wildcats' 11-0 win at Aiken on Friday. A.C. Flora, which out-hit Lexington 10-7, got two hits each from Madison Stokes, Everett Eynon, Wills Chapman and Sam Anderson. Pratte finished 2-for-3 and scored twice for Lexington. Cordes Baker (4-0), the fourth Lexington pitcher in the game, earned the win allowing no runs with two strikeouts over the final 1 2/3 innings. Chapman, also the fourth Falcons pitcher on the day, suffered the loss allowing two runs over the final three innings.
