Soccer: DF girls thump South Aiken

Sixth-ranked Dutch Fork dominated visiting No. 12 South Aiken in a key Region 5-4A girls soccer match on Tuesday.
The 4-1 win allowed the Silver Foxes (12-2, 6-1) to move into a one-half game lead in the standings and avenge their only region setback of the season. Junior Hayley Younginer was the standout with two goals and two assists.
Younginer set up the first goal of the match by Emily Jermstad and tallied the second and third goals herself before being credited with another assist on the final goal by Carson Markland.
The Silver Foxes have five matches left in the regular season, beginning with tonight’s outing at archrival Irmo. But the focus is on the May 1 rematch with Lexington that could clinch the region championship for DF. The Foxes defeated the Wildcats 2-0 on April 1.
