River Bluff swept Dreher in Region 4-3A soccer action on Tuesday.
The Gators third-ranked boys team scored a 4-0 win at The Swamp over a Blue Devils side that performed well at the Palmetto Cup during spring break. Connor Deany, Russ Hammond, Gian Ortega and Matthieu Jean-Baptiste tallied for the Gators, who stand at 14-3 overall, 9-0 overall.
River Bluff can wrap up the region championship with a win Friday at Chapin. No. 11 Dreher (10-8, 6-4) has another key region match on Friday at Memorial Stadium against archrival A.C. Flora (9-5-1, 7-3).
The No. 12 River Bluff girls pulled off a mild upset - a 3-0 triumph against fifth-ranked Dreher at Memorial Stadium.
The Gators got things going early. Five minutes in, Jordan Thomas stormed down the left side, cut to the middle and caught the net inside the far post. Emily Washburn added a goal on a free kick 15 minutes later. Bailey Shaberg concluded the scoring in the second half.
The Gators (8-6, 5-3) are still a long shot to finish in the top two spots in the final standings, but they have a shot with matches left against Chapin (Friday at home) and A.C. Flora in the regular season finale on May 7.
Dreher (14-2, 8-2) remains in the region championship race, but must beat Flora and Chapin in its final two conference outings and get some outside help.
