Boys soccer

Lexington at South Aiken

Sole possession of first place in Region 5-4A is the prize. The sixth-ranked Wildcats stand at 14-5-1 overall, 5-1 in region matters. Seventh-ranked South Aiken is 11-2-1, 5-1. Lexington was a 5-4 winner in the first match on March 25, which means the Thoroughbreds have more to lose. If SA falters, essentially it will be three games behind with three to play.

Gilbert at Brookland-Cayce

Second-ranked B-C (16-3-1, 6-0) downed the Indians 2-0 in the first Region 5-3A meeting on April 3. No. 12 Gilbert (10-4, 6-1) can pull even with the Bearcats with an upset win. If B-C prevails it will need one more win to clinch the region’s No. 1 state playoff seed and at least a share of the title.

River Bluff at Chapin

The third-ranked, first-year Gators (14-3, 9-0) can secure the outright Region 4-3A championship with a win over the fifth-ranked Eagles (10-6, 7-2). River Bluff scored late in regulation to force overtime and went on to win, 4-3, in extra time in the first meeting on March 25.

Chapin at River Bluff

Fourth-ranked Chapin (12-3, 9-0) is cruising in Region 4-3A, but the upstart Gators could pose an interesting test in the wake of a 3-0 win over fifth-ranked Dreher on Tuesday. River Bluff can earn a state playoff berth with a win, and keep Chapin from assuring itself at least a tie for the region title.

Airport at Swansea

Third-ranked Swansea (13-3, 5-0) is looking to stay the course atop the Region 5-3A standings in preparation for next week’s critical clash at home against Brookland-Cayce. No. 13 Airport (12-5-2, 4-2) can force its way into the title race with an upset win.

Dreher at A.C. Flora

Fifth-ranked Dreher (14-2, 8-2) saw its championship hopes in Region 4-3A take a hit on Tuesday in a 3-0 loss to River Bluff. Another loss drops the Blue Devils into a virtual tie for second place with No. 11 Flora (7-7-3, 5-3). Dreher was a 3-0 winner on March 25. The Blue Devils can secure no worse than a second-place region finish by completing a sweep of the Falcons along with a River Bluff loss to Chapin.

South Aiken at Lexington

Eighth-ranked Lexington (9-4, 5-1) looks to keep pace with Dutch Fork in the Region 5-4A championship race. The Wildcats must be on guard against a slipup against a South Aiken side (5-4-2, 3-2) that is stinging from a 4-1 loss to DF on Tuesday. With a Lexington win, the stage is set for a title showdown at Dutch Fork on May 1.
