Brookland-Cayce wrapped up its 16th boys soccer region championship on Monday with a 4-1 win over Swansea at The Cage.
The second-ranked Bearcats (18-3-1, 8-0) have a two-game lead over second-place Gilbert and can make the title an outright one with a win over Airport on Friday. It’s the third straight Region 5-3A championship for B-C.
According to a Twitter post, Brookland-Cayce’s previous region triumphs came in 1975-77, 1994-95, 1997-2002, 2005, 2010, 2012-14.
Tyler Brazell, Andrew Hess and Ivan Vasquez were the Bearcats who tallied against Swansea. The other score came on an own goal.
The win, in conjunction with a 1-0 success against Gilbert last Friday that completed a season sweep of the second-place Indians, assures the Bearcats of the region’s No. 1 state playoff seed.
